Symphony Concerts

In years gone by there used to be regular symphony concerts in San Miguel with full scale orchestras. As arts budgets have been steadily eroded, and continue to be so, this has not happened for some years. We have been working for several seasons to start to fill this gap. We started with a chamber orchestra of 14 string players. In our 2010/11 season we advanced to a 16-20 piece Sinfonieta, which included woodwind and brass. In 2012, the next step is a 28 piece orchestra at the Angela Peralta theatre. In 2013 we want to build this to a full symphony orchestra of around 60 players.  We need sponsorship to make this possible, both for the cost of the orchestra’s fees, and also to help pay for accommodating the musicians in hotels.

Opera

Building on our phenomenal Tosca this season, in 2013 we plan to present another production, possibly Carmen, with an orchestra.  This will almost double our costs and, again we are looking for a sponsor to make this possible. We would also be interested to hear from you if you have expertise in and want to be involved in our opera projects in the areas of stage management, lighting, wardrobe and props.

Concert Hall

San Miguel needs a small concert hall, customized for classical and other musical performances. This would ideally seat up to 500 people and have dressing rooms and front of house space. It need not be purpose built, as acoustic engineering can make most spaces suitable for performance needs. We are looking for such a space or building and for major sponsors to fund it. If you are willing to make a major donation for this purpose, whether cash, land or a building, or have any suggestions or want to be involved in this project, we would love to hear from you.
