Tosca!

I am very pleased to announce that tickets for Tosca are now on sale at all our usual ticket sales outlets, as well as at the Angela Peralta theater.  Over 150 tickets have already been sold and, if you have not bought yours yet, now is the time to do it.  Below you will see the dramatic poster that we have designed for the opera, with its framing motifs of the fan which Tosca finds, and assumes is evidence of the infidelity of her lover, the painter Mario Cavarodossi (sung by Rodrigo Garciarroyo); and the dagger with which she kills her tormentor, Baron Scarpia.

As I write the sets are under construction in workshops in San Miguel and the costumes are being made by seamstresses around town.  Tosca’s costume, as befits a great diva (in the opera her part is that of a renowned singer), is going to be absolutely stunning.  You responded to my request for props in the last newsletter with an avalanche of offers.  Who would have thought that there were so many swords, handcuffs and daggers hidden away in closets and garages in our city? It was a veritable avalanche of S&M!

All arrangements have now been made to accommodate the cast and the Mexico City based technical crew in Patron Member’s homes in San Miguel.  They will be here for up to ten days before the opening night, with a full week of rehearsals in the theater. That week, I wonder if you will recognise Floria Tosca or Cavaradossi, walking about town from their poster photos? Or, if you find yourself in a restaurant sitting near a suspicious character discussing the finer points of execution by firing squad, this is probably not a member of a drug gang, but Scarpia’s murderous henchman, Spoletta.

I remind you that you have a choice of two performances: Friday 10 February at 7 pm, and Sunday 12 February at 5 pm.  The reason for no Saturday performance is that the singers need to rest their voices because vocally this is an extremely demanding opera, particularly for Tosca, Cavaradossi and Scarpia.

If you have already purchased tickets at St. Paul’s and you have a voucher, this may now be exchanged at any of our concerts at the Tosca ticket sales desk before or after the concert or during the interval.
