Pro Musica of San Miguel de AllendePro Musica has been bringing world class classical music to San Miguel for over ten years. Our season runs from September to March and comprises around 25 concerts, ranging from solo piano and classical guitar recitals, through string quartets, to chamber orchestra and opera. Our regular venue is the 250-seat St. Paul's church near the city center. The acoustics there are outstanding and the atmosphere intimate. Most of our concerts are on Saturdays and Sundays at 5 pm. We keep our Steinway grand piano at the church in humidity-controlled conditions in a special room and maintain it impeccably. For special events, such as the larger orchestral concerts and opera, we use the city's beautiful 450 seat Angela Peralta theater. We also have one outdoor concert a year, in March, in a magical private garden, when we serve champagne and canapés in the long interval. The quality of our audiences' concert going experience is very important to us. At most concerts at St. Paul's, except those with piano, the musicians are on a raised stage so that sight lines from all the seats are good. The church could seat more people than the number of tickets we sell, but we do not want to overcrowd it. Interval refreshments are available and a free detailed program with high quality program notes is given to every concert goer. The key to our continuing success is our Patron Members, whose generous contributions underwrite our ability to bring renowned musicians to San Miguel from all over the world. They are our "family" - now over 100 strong and growing - and they make possible in San Miguel a quality and extent of musical life unparalleled in any other city of less than several million people in Mexico. Our Patron Membership scheme provides entry level membership from as little as US$100 per year. Members' benefits include, according to the donation level, free concert tickets, free invitations to "Meet the Artists" dinners and cocktail parties in exclusive private homes, advance ticket reservations, priority access to seating and reserved seats. Categories of membership range from US$100 - US$5,000. Part of our Patron Members' donations are also used to fund our Education Outreach Program. We are giving a musical education to some 50 boys and girls between the ages of 8-12 in schools in poor areas in the countryside outside of San Miguel. Also, we provide Suzuki violin lessons in the Santa Julia orphanage for girls in San Miguel. We also direct and pay for the musical education of an incredibly talented 17 year old Mexican, Steve Gonzalez, who we think could become a major composer in the Michael Nyman style. Do take a look at the video via the link below which shows some of the children at Los Ricos elementary school. Their enthusiasm for the music is infectious! On this site you will find full details of all our concerts for the coming season, a wealth of information about the artists who play for us and links for you to listen to and see them performing. We hope that you will find something that appeals to you in our wide and varied musical offerings and I look forward to welcoming you personally at our concerts.
